Veterinary Poultry Consultancy

Retainer Clients

Midlands Poultry Health Centre

For retainer clients, each proposal we submit is catered specifically for the farm. We are always willing to discuss the aspects of the retainer program to achieve the best client and vet partnership.
It really depends on what type of retainer client the farmer would like to be! Retainers may include food safety and vaccination programs, interpretation of results, and meetings in our boardroom to discuss start to finish ideas for the farm. Farm visits may be as few as 1-2 times per year depending on location, which can be part of the retainer agreement or separate. Another benefit of being a retainer client is the vet’s time and opinion is included, which makes each client in our program a top priority. We encourage farmers to have retainers so we can be more involved, consult with them, and phone them on a regular basis. If there is a disease outbreak in the area, we can phone our clients to notify them, explain how this could affect them, and advise how to proceed (biosecurity, vaccination, risk assessment, etc.).

It is extremely beneficial for the vets to have the complete history of the farm, which is gained from being our client. We use this information regularly and it’s vital, as the vets will be interpreting results and helping make decisions on the farm.

Farmers who do not wish to be part of the retainer program are still welcome to contact us!

We are here to help all poultry farmers get the best possible outcome for their farm(s). Appointments can be made for consultation and advice, aid with vaccination, audits on the farm, and more for an hourly fee. We additionally can help by sourcing guides on how to take samples and how to conduct a “quick post-mortem analysis” right on the farm. The vet can be “on standby” to look at pictures and give opinions on what samples to take and how, so it cuts travel time. This can be done for retainer clients or non-retainer clients for a fee.

We service many farms outside of South Africa as well. Dr Johnston and Dr Horner regularly visit farms throughout Africa. An additional aid for international clients is that we can help in sourcing official import permits to enable the importation of pathological specimens into South Africa for testing.
