Dr Roger Horner (BVSc MMed Vet Aves) is a well-recognized, registered Veterinary Poultry Specialist.
He has international poultry experience in Botswana, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Mozambique, Saudi Arabia, and the United Kingdom, to name a few. Additionally, Dr Horner has numerous scientific publications and has given scientific presentations across the globe including Australia, Canada, Germany, and more.
Dr Horner is the author of a Poultry Health and Food Safety Management Manual which is used as a guide by many to aid in diagnosing and sampling for poultry diseases and food safety of poultry products.
He has been a member of the Scientific Committee for the World Veterinary Poultry Association as well as being a founding member of the KwaZulu Natal Poultry Institute.
Dr Horner has served the community as a lecturer in Animal Science as well as formerly being the chief administrator and director of the Allerton Provincial and Regional Veterinary Laboratories.
He also has had multiple consultations with International Investment Organizations for the establishment and financing of poultry operations in Africa.
Additionally, Dr Horner has experience in outbreaks of both highly pathogenic and low pathogenic avian influenza viruses. He helped to draft South Africa’s first “National Policy Document for the Control of Avian Influenza” and co-authored the “South Africa National Avian Influenza Contingency Plan.”
Dr Peter Johnston (BSc Agric, BVSc Hons) is a Veterinary Poultry consultant.
Dr Peter Johnston has been involved for many years as a veterinarian surgeon with dogs and cats, however, his passion has been working to serve the poultry industry as a Poultry Veterinary consultant.
Peter has travelled to many countries as a poultry consultant, including Israel, Zambia, Uganda, Mozambique, Malawi, Kenya, and Australia in 2019 (where he presented a scientific paper at the Australian Antimicrobial Stewardship congress on the gold coast near Brisbane).
Peter enjoys helping all manner of poultry farmers to improve their farm production through scientific innovation and good management procedures.
Dr Johnston has been in the poultry industry for over 13 years.
In addition to his degree in veterinary science, he conducted a 3 year honours course for the study of poultry specifically.
He has travelled throughout South Africa as well as internationally for various conferences and forums regarding poultry health.
